Headless Greg was hired as the character designer for Dundee Design Festival 2021.

Brief: In collaboration with the festival producers, Agency of None, design a suite of visuals and a “Character Design System” to be used across all aspects of the festival.

This project was longlisted for a World Illustration Award

Character design: Characters were used across the festival to create an aesthetic which felt accessible and engaging to a wide audience. Communicating the message that this design festival was not just for designers was a top priority.

Character Design System: Headless Greg also created a digital library of geometric body parts, facial features and accessories which other designers could use. This system was used throughout all of the festival events, which included clothing and boardgame design workshops.

Public art: Many of the characters designed by Headless Greg were turned into installations; a team of local craftspeople turned 2D illustrations into spinning barrel-heads and a giant marble run.

Website: DDF’s character-filled online hub guided visitors around the physical events and housed digital activities, which allowed people to take part from anywhere in the world.

Stobswellbeing Store: A character-building workshop inspired by the positive impact creativity can have on mental wellbeing; visitors could build a character for free while discussing how they were feeling that day.
