The Story

In 2020, I graduated with a First Class Degree in Illustration from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee; and launched Headless Greg, a creative studio which houses all of the work I do as an illustrator, design writer and everything in between.

During my graduate year, I was picked as One To Watch by both D&AD New Blood and the Association Of Illustrators, and appeared on the Creative Boom podcast to discuss mental health and pandemic graduations. Since then, I’ve had my work recognised twice by the World Illustration Awards, and continued to craft words and imagery for a growing list of clients.

Before going to DJCAD to study Illustration, I’d already achieved and HND in Graphic Design and gained a few years of experience as a design writer. This eclectic set of skills allows me to all kinds of creative projects. Editor, character designer, artworker, content creator, mentor; I wear all kinds of creative hats.

Whether it is with geometric shapes or uplifting words, my overarching aim is to make the world around me a brighter place. As a mental health advocate and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am particularly passionate about working on socially-driven project which use creativity as a catalyst for positive change.

Let’s work together to make good things happen!

Services

Headless Greg offers a variety of creative services:

  • My illustration work is all about abstraction; I love nothing more than playing with colourful, geometric shapes.

Working across print and digital, I’ve illustrated everything from websites to window displays for clients including Ancestry, Creative Lives in Progress, Tai Ping and Make Bank.

  • My writing is all about creatives and the things which matter most to them. I further explore my specialism in illustration, as well as delving into the worlds of fashion, interiors and public art; all while opening up important conversations on topics such as creative education, diversity and mental health.

I’ve had my words published both online and in print by the likes of Creative Boom, 91 Magazine, Nobrow, Ohh Deer, Inkygoodness and The Association of Illustrators.

  • As a graphic designer, I work with clients to help them communicate their message in a way which is crystal clear and bursting with personality.

Recent projects have included branding Small Society Lab for Creative Dundee; designing social media templates for Anorak Magazine; and web development work for Make Bank.

  • I work part-time as editor at Make Bank, a social project which is fighting against creative poverty in UK schools by providing disadvantaged young people with art materials and resources.

As editor, I utilise the entirety of my creative skill set. My duties include editing creative careers stories and writing content for our website; designing and sharing social media content; collaborating with our partners and lots, lots more.

  • As a multi-disciplinary creative, I have worked on lots of other unique creative projects including:

Being hired as the character designer for Dundee Design Festival, which involved creating a character-building system which was used across the festival’s identity and advertising as well as at the event.

Working as an artworker for Paperboy London (even if I didn’t create the images, I’m happy to tidy them up).

Chatting with Katy Cowan from Creative Boom as a podcast guest and being a speaker at an event organised by Tern Heads.

Becoming a mentor with The Arena, Design Weans and D&AD and being a judge on the panel for the RSA Student Design Awards.

If you have a project you’d like to discuss with me, please get in touch.
