10 Female Creative Bloggers
When I first thought of the idea for today's post - a list of my favourite female bloggers to celebrate International Women's Days 2017 - I wasn't sure if it would seem odd coming from a male blogger or come across as if I was just jumping on the bandwagon of a popular hashtag. Obviously, I decided to go ahead with the post and this was thanks to the encouragement of some female fellow creatives. First, I mentioned the idea to my writer friend Jessica Cook all of who thought it was a good idea and then, this morning as part of my morning routine of scrolling through social media, I read Natasha Nuttall's blog post about supporting female creatives in which she said:
"Maybe you are not a creative or a female yourself, but you can definitely protect and help shape female creatives. Whether you're a mother, brother, cousin or best friend; encourage and support talented ladies - they are the future after all!"
- Natasha Nuttall
Reading this is when it properly clicked: I'm a son, brother, cousin, friend and colleague to some incredibly creative and inspiring women so why shouldn't I join in a day dedicated to celebrating them? So without further ado, here is a list of 10 talented female bloggers who inspire me on a daily basis...
Given that she helped inspire me to write the post, it seems only right to start with Natasha Nuttall's amazing design blog Graphique Fantastique. From enthusing over triangles, Pantone and printing to chatting about life as a modern creative, showing how to take the perfect instagram to lists of creative YouTubers - all Natasha's content is unique and I never miss a post! Oh and did I mention Natasha has a great YouTube channel of her own too?
Young Gold Teeth
I only discovered Emily Beeson's Young Gold Teeth a few days ago when I read her post about visiting Ohh Deer's new store. As soon as I realised I was reading the blog of a fellow stationery addict I knew it would be a new favourite. Having now looked through more of her amazing posts, what I like most is the variety of content. Posts range from artist interviews to healthy recipes, the only overarching theme being Emily's fresh and creative style.
My morning routine would go to pieces without Katy Cowan's Creative Boom. Thanks to it's healthy supply of new content every day, they have become my go to breakfast read. Whether you are after articles about photography, graphic design or illustration, features showcasing fresh new businesses or in-depth interviews with leading creatives, it is all on off at the Creative Boom breakfast buffet. A guru of artful living, Diana Moss shares an eclectic mix of articles about fashion, illustration, design, shopping, lifestyle and motherhood on her blog. What's best about Miss Moss is you never quite know what you are going to get on any given day. It could be a piece on her favourite fashion trend of the moment or article about the TV box set she is currently bingeing, but one thing is for sure - it will be undoubtedly stylish. In The Jungalow, you can expect to find rooms filled with plants, pattern and plenty of colour accompanied by tips and tricks for how to create your own jungalicous interiors. Blogger, stylist and now product designer Justina Blakeney's career seems to be growing bigger by the day and following her blog you get to tag along on all her wild design adventures.
Holly Becker has had huge success with her interior design blog Decor8 for a very good reason - her seemingly effortless style. Now head of her own online school (which I am currently studying at) and author of several excellent books, Holly's blog remains a calm and collected space for her to share her thoughts and inspirations with a growing community.
Inkygoodness was the first ever blog I wrote for and before that I was one of the first design blogs I ever read and it has stayed a firm favourite ever since. Even though they are super busy with there amazing Design agency , the team still find time to uncover and share lots of hidden gems from the graphic art world. As one of my favourite illustrators, it is no surprise that Fran Nerd's blog is one of my favourite places on the internet. On the blog, Fran Meneses shares everything from tips of how to open a successful Etsy shop to posts about her love of paper and she also has a brilliant YouTube channel where she shares similar designer delights!
Brown Paper Bag
From weekly illustrated product round ups to article about exciting new artists, each blog post by Sara Barnes works towards proving that everything in life is better with a healthy dose of illustration - an opinion I definitely share! The image above is by Kate Appleby, one of many talented embroiderers Brown Paper Bag has featured recently.
Last but by no means least, the 91 Magazine blog is a constant source of inspiration for me! Between issues, the blog gives readers a regular fix of stylish tutorials and interior round ups as well as sneak peaks at how the print journal is created. Having recently written a guest post for the blog, I know what nice, talented people it's female led team are.
So there you go - 10 insanely talented female bloggers! That was quite the list and I am all blogged out for today but before I go, I would like reiterate Natasha's sentiment and encourage you - regardless of what gender you are - to use today to shout about your favourite female creators using the hashtag #IWD17. Happy International Women's Day!
